Daily Devotionals | Faith & Encouragement
Today’s Scripture: Matthew 11:28 (KJV)
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
The Weight of Trying to Do Everything
Have you ever reached the end of the day feeling completely exhausted, yet somehow convinced that you still haven’t done enough?
There are responsibilities waiting for your attention.
People depending on you.
Decisions that need to be made.
And expectations that sometimes feel impossible to meet.
As women, we often become accustomed to carrying so much that we forget what it feels like to simply rest.
We care for our families.
We work toward our goals.
We support the people we love.
And somewhere along the way, we begin believing that everything depends on our ability to hold it all together.
But today, I want to remind you of something.
God never asked you to prove your worth by carrying every burden alone.
Jesus Invites Us to Come
In Matthew 11:28, Jesus extends a beautiful invitation to those who are weary and burdened.
“Come unto me…”
Those words are filled with compassion.
Jesus doesn’t begin by demanding that we accomplish more.
He invites us to come to Him.
In the surrounding passage, Jesus speaks of taking His yoke and learning from Him.
The rest He offers is connected to following Him, receiving His teaching, and finding relief from burdensome striving.
What a beautiful reminder that our relationship with Christ is not meant to be defined by endless spiritual performance.
We are invited into a life of discipleship shaped by His grace.
You Are More Than What You Accomplish
Sometimes, our exhaustion comes from believing that our value is determined by our productivity.
If we accomplish everything on our list, we feel successful.
If we fall behind, we feel inadequate.
But your worth is not measured by how many tasks you complete.
You are valuable because you were created in God’s image.
You are loved because of His grace, not because you’ve earned His affection through endless activity.
And you are allowed to recognize your limitations.
Rest is not a sign of weakness.
Asking for help is not failure.
Setting healthy boundaries is not selfishness.
These can be wise and necessary ways to care for the life and responsibilities God has entrusted to you.
Learning to Rest Without Guilt
Rest may look different depending on your season of life.
Sometimes, it means taking a few quiet moments to pray.
Sometimes, it means stepping away from your phone and allowing your mind to settle.
Sometimes, it means declining another commitment because your schedule is already full.
And sometimes, it means asking someone else to share a responsibility you’ve been carrying alone.
Psalm 46:10 begins with the words:
“Be still, and know that I am God.” (KJV)
Within its larger context, this passage declares God’s sovereignty over turmoil and conflict.
It reminds us that He is God, even when the world around us feels unsettled.
We can draw encouragement from that truth as we learn to stop striving for control over everything.
You do not have to accomplish everything today to be worthy of God’s love.
Today’s Faith Application
Take ten minutes today to be intentional about rest.
Put away distractions.
Sit somewhere peaceful.
Read Matthew 11:28–30 slowly.
Ask God to help you recognize what has been weighing on your heart.
Then identify one practical way to reduce an unnecessary burden.
Perhaps you need to delegate a task, establish a boundary, or simply give yourself permission to rest.
Today’s Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for seeing me in the middle of my responsibilities and understanding the burdens I sometimes carry.
Lord, there are days when I feel exhausted from trying to do everything.
I want to be strong for everyone.
I want to fulfill my responsibilities.
And sometimes I forget that I need rest, too.
Teach me to come to You when I feel overwhelmed.
Help me recognize the difference between responsibilities I need to fulfill and burdens I was never meant to carry alone.
Give me wisdom to establish healthy boundaries and courage to ask for help when I need it.
Remind me that my worth is not determined by my productivity.
Thank You for the rest and grace found in Jesus Christ.
In His name, Amen.
Today’s Declaration
I do not have to carry every burden alone. I can honor my responsibilities while receiving the rest and grace Christ offers.
A Moment to Reflect
What burden have you been carrying that you need to bring before God today?
Rooted in His Word. Resting in His Grace.
